History of ecommerce
Ecommerce is the form of commerce used very much in the present, that is formed also by buyers and sellers like the traditional commerce, but is using the internet as a way of transaction. So the 2 parts, the buyer and the seller are meeting face to face never. Computer networks can be also used. But in the past the ecommerce meant simply that the commerce transaction was made using electronic methods, like for example Electronic Data Interchange. The business companies were also using Electronic Funds Transfer program, but all that this program do was to let the company send to each other different documents of their transaction, like the purchase orders.
This transaction between businesses to business is called B2B. Thomson Holidays used theB2B in 1981. Then the technology bought also the existence of credit cards and ATMs, so that the ecommerce was even more used. In the 1980 telephone banking started, France was one of the first countries to use it, due to the help of France Telecom. The airline companies developed also and they had the idea of the airline reservation system. One of the first companies in USA to use it was Sabre.
The car industry also used this new technology starting with the 1980s, so that in 1985 Nissan was one of the first companies to use credit checking in the process of financing the clients for a new car. Sweg was the first American company that had the idea to develop software that would help companies and people to sell their products and services online. In order to do this, they used an "electronic Merchant account". Internet and the www (World Wide Web) as we know today were created in the 1990s, as the idea of Tim Berners Lee. This was a way for everyone to communicate, but commerce started only in 1991. The release of the first internet browser, Mozilla (developed by Netscape) helped a lot the future of ecommerce. The internet was much more available for every man and the companies started to take advantage of this new technology. For example "Pizza Hut" was one of the first companies to allow their customers to make online ordering. Flower delivering order was also one of the businesses that used internet. Ecommerce has its most success once with the release in 1995 of Amazon.com and then later of eBay. Since then both Amazon and eBay have only registered profit.
